Affirmations that Work

Have you ever really wanted something badly, and sat there saying something like "I really wish I had .....!"?  The gap might be filled with "loads of money", " a great boyfriend", "a big mansion in the country", "more confidence" - you name it!

Or how about "I wish I wasn't .....!"?  This might be "so fat", "so poor", "so lonely", "so nervous" etc.

Well if you have done that, at least it shows something within you understands the need for affirmations.  But unfortunately the first of these formats is so weak it is more likely to give you the opposite of what you want, and the second is far worse and is almost CERTAIN to give you the opposite!

An affirmation is a positive statement that focuses your mind on something you want to achieve, but does so in such a way that you begin to believe subconsciously that you already have it, and that also (ideally) is associated with positive energy and feelings about what you "have achieved already".  It works by aligning you with whatever it is you want, and sending a message to the Universe to attract that to you.  If you do it properly it is just like the law of gravity - it cannot fail.  But note carefully - I did say "if you do it properly"!

The problem with most attempts at affirmation is that they are in the wrong tense, not associated with great feelings, and very often stated negatively.

Here are the three rules on creating affirmations that really work:

  1. Always frame your affirmations as a positive statement, not a wish or want and NEVER a negative statement.
  2. Always frame your affirmations in the present tense, not the future.
  3. Always associate strong positive emotions with each affirmation.

Here is an example of what I mean:

"I wish I didn't live in this awful house in this terrible town!"

This statement is guaranteed to keep you trapped in exactly what you don't want.  Even if you move it will just be to another awful house in another terrible town!  Why?  Because your subconscious mind is a bit like a rather stupid giant (or sometimes a badly programmed computer).  It hears the words "awful house" and "terrible town" and responds by attracting these things to you.  Your fault - you have written the program badly!

But now listen to this:

"I live in a wonderful house in a really great neighbourhood!"

See the difference?  Now you will start attracting whatever it is that will get you set up in that wonderful house in a really great neighbourhood!  Especially if you start visualizing it, imagining yourself living there, and start recognizing how great it makes you feel.

Take a look at whatever it is you want to achieve and start working out the right affirmation for it, following the three rules I have given you.  Then make sure you USE your new affirmation, repeating it when you wake, during the day, and before you go to sleep.  See just what a difference that begins to make in your life!

If you want to get a great series of positive affirmations to help you achieve your goals, try these here:

If you want to take rule 3 even further I suggest you make what is called a "Mind Movie" which will really instill those positive emotions and make your affirmation so much more effective.  You can find out more about "Mind Movies" by going here:

Meditation and Stress

by

Winnie A McBride

Stress is one of the biggest problems in our society today. Many of the issues that people have with their health, performance at work, and life in general can be linked to stress. It can also be linked to how they respond to the various types of stress in their lives. It is important to note that there are many different types of stress just as there are many different ways to meditate and obtain the benefits that meditation has to offer.

There are both good and bad forms of stress. The good type of stress is the type that triggers motivation and productivity. It is the type of stress that is primarily the pressure to succeed provided that that pressure does not become overwhelming to the point of obsession. This type of stress can be considered positive. Negative stress is the type that ends up translating into worry and anxiety as well as the feelings of helpless and hopelessness. This type of stress does nothing for the body and can have negative implications to the health of both the mind and the body.

Meditation offers the opportunity to eliminate negative forms of stress or turn them into positive influences. The mind is a powerful tool and is incredibly versatile. As a result, of this versatility meditation can help you to change the way you view stress, respond to stress and use stress in your life. Generally, individuals respond to stress negatively when there is a conflict or past issue, which the stress triggers. This could be a time when work was viewed negatively and there was a direct effect on productivity for example.

Meditation allows you to view thoughts in a singular fashion and can help you to analyze and take notice of small things, which you may not be consciously aware of that are causing you to respond in a particular fashion. By resolving these issues, or altering the way you think about them, something that is easy to do when you are in the quiet calm created through the meditative state, you can change how you handle the stress in your life.

This may sound difficult to do but it is remarkably easy once you learn the process and become familiar and comfortable with it. It is a good idea to start with using meditation as a relaxation technique. This gets your body and mind used to reaching the calm meditative state necessary to ensure your success. You may want to experiment with various techniques to find the one that works best for you. Guided meditation techniques work well for individual who are just beginning to look into meditation and its benefits. These techniques are designed to walk you through every step of the process. This can help to eliminate any worries or anxieties that you may have about getting started. Once you become experienced in meditation you can easily reach the calm meditative state with just a few breaths and change how you are responding to the stress created from both internal and external sources.

Brain Entrainment

If you are serious about improving yourself you may already have come across the term "brain entrainment".  Perhaps you have even used it yourself.  There are numerous self-improvement products in the market which use brain entrainment as an integral part of their process.  But what actually is it?  Is it safe to use, and does it work?

You probably already know that different states of mind are associated with different brainwave frequencies.  If you can change the frequency, you can change the state of mind.  For example, you can induce sleep, become happier, more positive, more able to achieve whatever it is you want to achieve.

There are various ways of altering your brain frequency.  One very powerful method is meditation.  Another is using sounds which cause your brainwaves to fall into step with them - and this is what is meant by brain entrainment.  Regular use of either meditation or brain entrainment techniques will allow you over time to be able to enter your required state of mind at will without relying on any external stimuli or formally entering into a meditative state.

Brain entrainment could be compared to an effect the Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens discovered over 350 years ago.  What Huygens discovered was that if you lined up a series of pendulum clocks all slightly out of time with each other they would eventually all move in time.  Likewise, if your brain receives a signal slightly out of step with its own brainwaves, those brainwaves change and fall in step with the new signal.  This is brainwave entrainment in a nutshell.

It is perfectly safe to use, although if you have a medical condition such as epilepsy or are otherwise prone to seizures you should consult your physician before attempting to use it.

Certainly it works, as long as it is used properly.

If you are interested in finding out more about how brain entrainment could be used to help you with your own self-improvement efforts, check out this video:

Willpower and Goals

Are you the type of person who has a lot of willpower to see a project through to its completion or do you feel your willpower is lacking? While many people think that some people have more willpower than others this is simply not true. Everyone has the same amount of willpower - what is different is the way you choose to use your willpower

It is easy to blame your lack of willpower for the choices you make and for giving up. How many times have you heard someone say, "I just don't have the willpower to follow through?"

The real question is: Do you really want to achieve your goals, or are you happy to continue using the excuse that you do not have enough willpower?

If you really want to achieve your goals, then you certainly can.  You simply have to make sure you have the right mindset and know you can achieve them. Make sure, though, that you are setting realistic goals. You may find, for example, a goal to run this year's marathon may be unrealistic if the last time you did any exercise at all was 10 years ago!

Take a look at each of your goals and make sure it IS realistic within the timescale you are setting for it. Sit quietly and envision yourself achieving it. If you can do this, great! If not, it may be time to scale back on it a little until you really can visualize the right outcome. Then, as you progress towards that goal you can always expand it until eventually you are achieving the original goal which was initially too ambitious.

I want to emphasize that "realistic" here has nothing to do with what others around you may be telling you. Your realistic goal may be considered far to ambitious by your friends and family, but that is not what counts.  What matters is what YOU can internalize as realistic.

Now that you have realistic goals, sit quietly again and picture yourself once you have achieved that goal. If your goal is to lose 10 pounds, visualize yourself wearing the clothes you will now be able to wear. See yourself in the mirror and admire your new, well balanced body. If your goal is to speak a new foreign language fluently, see yourself surrounded by native speakers of that language, having a great time with your new friends. Whatever your goal, really internalize all the positive outcomes of achieving it.

Do this frequently until it becomes a habit.

Create a picture board, or mind map, of your new life once you have achieved your goal. Just looking at this picture board should energize you and make you determined to achieve it.

Now, every time you feel your motivation lacking, your willpower slipping away, just look again at your picture board and visualize your life after you have achieved your goal. Do you feel your motivation return, your willpower strengthened? You certainly should! If not, you are either working on the wrong goal or you have not yet really visualized properly the difference it is going to make in your life!

Don't forget, of course, to create the write positive affirmations for your goal as well. I am not going to explore this important subject here, but check my blog and other positive sites for articles on affirmations if you are not completely familiar with how and why you should do this.

Shifting your mindset will probably not happen overnight. Usually it will take time and effort on your part. Just remember that nothing is impossible if you really want to achieve it, so your focus at the outset MUST be to ensure you have that strong desire to achieve it.

Finally, remember that goals change over time. You must be ready for this and adapt as necessary so you can continue to achieve your evolving goals.

Tips for Writing Your Own Affirmations

by

Affirmations are simple positive statements you make which reinforce something in your life. These statements can be about what you would like to have, such as riches and fame, or the type of person you would like to be, such as loving or assertive. You can always go to your favorite search engine and find affirmations particular to your situation. The best, however, are those you develop for yourself.

Here is a simple process in which you can do this.

Identify What You Want

Many people believe this is very easy. You may think you want riches, but you would really like security. When you say you want success, you may actually desire parental approval.

To discover what you truly want in life keep repeating the same question. That question is, "And what will that get me?"

For instance, you say you want a particular type of house in a specific neighborhood. Ask the above question. An answer might be, "It'll prove I'm successful." Now asked the question again. This time you might say, "People will notice me." Repeat the process. You might get, "People will look up to me." Keep doing this until you get a sort of ah-ha internal experience. Then you know this is truly what you want.

Develop Your Positive Statement

Now that you know your true desire put it in a positive statement using present tense. An example, "My family notices my success and congratulates me." If you follow the process above, this affirmation will be exactly what it is that you truly want. Yes, you may still have that house in mind, but that comes later in the process.

If you get your house, but don't get what you truly want, you will still feel dissatisfied and empty. The key is to uncover your deepest yearnings. When those are fulfilled you will experience joy and completion.

Identify How You Will Know You Have What You Most Want

This process actually works with your subconscious mind. It is your subconscious mind which silently guides and directs you by means of what it believes you want to happen in your life. Your subconscious mind is concrete, not abstract. You have to tell it what you mean by what you say. This is where that house you have your eye on comes in.

How will you know when you have achieved your desire? List three things you will see in your life when the statement, "My family notices my success and congratulates me" is fulfilled. This is where you identify things such as, "I have a house with four bedrooms and three bathrooms built to my specifications on an acre of land next to the water," "My children attend an elite private school and are at the top of their class," or "My income after taxes is $250,000 per year."

Once you have the three things you will see in your life which proves your success, get in touch with how it will feel, what people will say about you, and everything else involved in your achievement. Write it all down.

Anchoring It In

The last step is to use your affirmation while keeping in mind those marks of achievement. Do that now. Now touch your thumb to one of your fingers as an anchor to what it is you desire. Throughout the day repeat that statement of achievement keeping in mind the images, words and feelings which accompany it.

Just repeating this statement over and over will do very little. You need to bring with you the visual, auditory and kinesthetic experiences which accompany your accomplishment.

Good Habits

If I asked you to tell me about your habits, how would you respond?  Would you talk about smoking, drinking too much, snacking between meals?  Or would you refer to your daily practice of yoga, meditation, or affirmations?

Most people think of habits as something bad, and it is true most of us probably do have bad habits.  But the reality is that we also have lots of good habits.  And we can create more good habits if we really want to do so.

If you want to change something in your life, the way to do so is to create a new habit.  If you are afflicted or know someone with the smoking habit, or even addicted to hard drugs, you will know just how powerful a habit can be.  So use that power!  Decide what it is you want to change, work out what you need to do that is different in order to effect that change, then establish it as a habit.

I have already mentioned three great habits from which we could all benefit and which will have a fundamental affect on our lives if we make them an integral part of our life - yoga, meditation and affirmations.  Maybe you will choose to establish one or more of these as a habit.  Or maybe you will find something different - something that resonates with you and that you know you would really love to make it a part of your life.  Take your time and make sure you have found something really good - something that can really be "you".

Having found what it is you want to do, the next step is to make it a habit.  How exactly can you do this?

In his classic book "Psycho Cybernetics", Maxwell Maltz informs us that the same action repeated regularly 21 times becomes a habit. This could be something you will do every day, in which case in three weeks you will have established it as a habit.  Maybe it is something you will do every working day, in which case your habit will be established in a month.  Or perhaps you will do it once a week, in which case you will have a new positive habit in around five months.

In your first 21 repetitions be absolutely ruthless.  No matter what happens, tell yourself you MUST perform this action.  No excuses accepted.  Certainly do not fall into the trap of telling yourself it is ok to miss it one time and then do double (e.g. spend twice as much time) the next time.  If you do this you will be setting yourself up to fail.

But if something DOES happen which makes it impossible for you to do it, don't stress out.  This is another reason so many people fail, as they falter at the first hurdle.  Accept the situation, and just move on.  You have missed one repetition, so it just means it will take you slightly longer, that is all.  Don't let it happen too often, but also don't let it de-rail your plan to establish this good habit.

Once you have the 21 repetitions under your belt you have established your good habit.  You now do not have to be quite so ruthless.  If there is a good reason for missing one day (or one weekend, or one month, etc) then you can relax and accept that reason - because now you know that it is a habit, and the next time around you will still automatically be ready to do it.  Keep an eye on it, as habits can still be broken, but it should certainly no longer be the struggle you probably found it took in the first 21 repetitions.

Also, once you have established your new habit, look for another one.  Maybe you would like to learn a new language for example, or develop some other skill.  Make this the next good habit you will establish.  Not by replacing the first one, but by adding to it.  Keep doing this.  As each new skill, personality change, good practice etc becomes a habit for you, add another one.  Do this until you have established 21 new habits.  Why 21?  Because now you have established a habit of creating success habits - and you will have become unstoppable!

Law of Attraction is as real as gravity

by

Joe Vitale

You’ve probably heard about and maybe even practiced the “Law of Attraction” to bring better things into your life.

It’s one of our brain’s most natural and powerful talents. Countless people all over the world have used this “law” to attract wealth and abundance to themselves and the people they love.

So why have so many more tried and failed?

The #1 question we ask when it fails to work for us is...

“If Attraction is actually a ‘law,’ then why won’t it work for me as automatically and effortlessly as gravity does? Why would you have to do anything to make it work?”

Well, the truth is that just like gravity, the Law of Attraction IS always working. You don’t need to do anything to make it “work”…

You just have to do something if you want to harness it and make it work for you.

It took Isaac Newton and an apple falling off a tree to make us “aware” of gravity, and look at it with awareness and intent. And then it still took a few hundred years until we figured out how to fly.

Well, the Law of Attraction is similar. All along, it’s been a force in your life.

So why do so many people struggle to attract money? Struggle to bring abundance and happiness into their lives, when the Law of Attraction is all around them?

The fact is, if the Law of Attraction works all the time, and your own results fall short… then the difference must be in you.

If you state an intention, and it doesn’t work, there’s a part of you that’s fighting with another part of yourself.

You’ve probably heard the saying that we only use a small fraction of our brains. Well, 80 to 90 percent of our thinking is unconscious.

We are like conscious icebergs with most of our thoughts happening beneath the water line, out of our awareness.

What this means is that what you consciously think isn’t anywhere near as important as what your unconscious mind thinks.

So when your intentions fail to manifest, all too often it’s because there’s an unconscious conflict of beliefs deep down. A conflict that may have been buried there since childhood.

Some experts call these “counter-intentions,” and until you get “clear” of these hidden mental snags attracting the things you want in life is going to be very difficult.

It’s like trying to drive a car with one foot flooring the gas and the other foot pumping the brake pedal.

However, when you discover the simple process of eliminating this blocked thinking from your mind, it’s as if the flood gates are flung wide open and all the abundance you’ve been concentrating on and waiting for is suddenly “cleared for landing”.

See exactly how it works in this just released video that explains the new research and how people are now using the Law of Attraction more powerfully than ever before. The video is free (of course), available at the link below.

Groundhog Day

In the comedy film "Groundhog Day", Bill Murray plays a man who gets a second chance to achieve what he wants in life.  No, let's re-write that.  Not a second chance, nor a third, nor a fourth - but dozens and dozens of chances.  Every morning he finds it is the same day and he can repeat what he did "yesterday" but ironing out all the mistakes.  Eventually he becomes a brilliant pianist, medical expert, counsellor, and, of course (this is Hollywood, after all) gets the girl of his dreams.

I love that film, and if you will excuse the irony I watch it again and again.  Not just because I think it is a brilliant comedy, but because I love a couple of the messages that come through loud and clear:

1 It is never too late to try again.
2 There is always time to achieve whatever it is you want to achieve.

In the film, of course, there is a magical element - the fact that the same day keeps repeating.  None of us has that luxury unfortunately.  Well, not quite.  But in a sense we do have that luxury.  I don't know how many more days you have, and nor do you, but for most of us it is a very large number.  I fully expect to have several thousand more days in which I can work on my goals.  I might not get them all, but I probably will.  That gives me several thousand chances.  More than enough!  But at the same time, I know today could be my last day on earth, so I should live it as though it really IS my last day.

Have a good think about exactly what it is that you want to achieve.  When you know what that is, begin the exercise by knowing that you can achieve it.  Then break it down into small, bite-sized goals.  And for each goal, write down what you need to do in order to reach it.  Now all you have to do is find some time each day to work on achieving those goals.  If you have thousands of days to get there, even a very small chunk of the day will be enough.  I am sure you can find that very small chunk of time.

So get going right now.  Create your own Groundhog Day and reach out to achieve those goals!

Dream the Impossible

Every morning while I do my online work I can see a poster my sister gave me for Christmas, which now has pride of place above my computer desk.  It reads:

"Dream the Impossible.  Seek the Unknown.  Achieve Greatness."

To me, that is a great part of what life is all about.  We are not just here to be here - we are here to achieve.

For each of us, that dream will be very different.  But whatever that dream means for you, dream it - and achieve it!

You may sometimes give up hope that you can ever achieve it.  When you apply logic to your dream it really seems impossible, so why try?  But this world is filled with people who have achieved the impossible.  It doesn't matter that it seems impossible to you now - if it really is your dream, then go out and fight for it!

As Joe Darion and Mitch Leigh said in their beautiful song, composed for the Broadway musical, "Man of La Mancha", if you are true to your quest you really can make this world a better place!

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To be willing to give when there's no more to give
To be willing to die so that honor and justice may live

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

3 Lies You Tell Yourself About Money

by

Andrew A. Block

Did you know that your attitude toward money affects many different aspects of your life. How you feel about money and wealth affects not only the amount of money a person tends to accumulate but also how happy they are in life. Changing the way you look at income, investing and wealth can literally change your life as well as make you a happier person, in general.

We are all brought up in a society where we are taught many different things concerning money and wealth. Your parents, teachers and society didn't mean to warp your mind or harm you but there are several thoughts that most of us feel are true without even thinking about it. These teachings might be somewhat true but they are taken a bit out of context.

First, the belief that you need money to make money is sometimes taken a gospel truth. If you feel that you are doomed to the social class or tax bracket that you currently inhabit, this might be a belief that you hold to be true. You see wealthy people who are able to invest large sums in stock and business ventures. They reap big rewards and a loss is only a small sum of what they own so it barely phases them.

While it might be true that it's easier to invest large sums of money and lose large sums and still survive for the world's wealthiest individuals, everybody had to start somewhere. Most of the world's most successful people started with nothing or lost everything and had to rebuild their empire a time or two. Belief, desire and a dream were their leverage and it can be the same for you if. It is often their thoughts or vision that make them their wealth and not simply investing in the right stocks or businesses.

Next, many of us believe that in order for us to make large sums of money, it must come from someone else. We believe that wealth is a zero sum game. This means that in order for us to have something it must be taken away from someone else. We become rich while someone else becomes poor. If we have any sort of heart or soul, this can be troubling and it can cause you to subconsciously resist wealth and money.

The truth is that wealth comes more often when you help other people. The world will gladly fill your pockets if you can solve some of their biggest problems. If you can build a better mouse trap or find a way to provide value or save people time and effort then the world will beat a path to your door. Greed demands that we take from others. Wealth is about helping others and providing value and making lives easier and happier.

The last lie that we have all been told is that money is the root of all evil. Most of us have heard this and been taught it since we were children. You might even despise wealthy people and their apparent greediness. In your mind you might even worry that you will lose your friends and family if you were to become rich. You worry that you'd change and become arrogant or that people will become jealous and despise you because of how much money you have.

Here's the truth. You don't have to change a thing after you become rich. Money doesn't have to change you. It is your choice how you live your life and how you treat people. Other people's jealousy is their own problem. You have a life to live and probably people that you wish to take care of. Do you really want to sacrifice their happiness because of what other people will think? Greed and being willing to do anything for money is evil. Providing value to the world and solving some of the world's problems should be a goal that we strive towards. The money or wealth is only a byproduct of wanting to help others.

Your thoughts about money and your fears about how it might change your life are just a few aspects of investing and wealth building that all of us struggle with. Being able to wrestle these misguided thoughts into submission and replace them with more positive thoughts can change how wealth comes to you in your life. Often our subconscious holds us back and keeps us from becoming wealthy. We are done before we have even begun all thanks to our own mind. Conquer your mind and you can conquer the world. You have grand thoughts and big things that you wish to do in this life and the world is willing to pay you handsomely for helping.

Are Accountability Partners Worth It?

If you are considering finding an accountability partner you may be feeling a little dubious about it. Are they really worth it or do these sessions turn into friendly chats where nothing is ever achieved?

This is going to depend on your purpose for getting an accountability partner in the first place. It will also depend on just how serious you are with your weekly or monthly goals. Any meeting can turn into a friendly chit-chat if you allow it.

My advice to you is before connecting with an accountability partner determine what your goals and desires are for wanting one. Do you really want to be held accountable for your actions? Or maybe you are lacking socially and are looking for more of an excuse to chat with someone? If so, then maybe being more active in social media or running your own Facebook group could be a better alternative for you.

Once you have set your goals for wanting an accountability partner your next step is finding one. Many online forums and communities have special sections for connecting with potential accountability partners. Take a look at those forums which you visit frequently and see if they have one.

If you are active on social media you could post that you are looking for one there. Do you know anyone else that uses an accountability partner?  Why not ask them where they found theirs?

This is definitely not something that you want to rush into. It is important to find the right person so that you will both benefit from your meetings. Write out a list of qualities or traits that you are looking for. You may want a person who is of the same gender and age as you. What about time zones? Is connecting with someone on a totally different continent going to work?

Use Skype or Facebook chat to connect with possible partners and get to know them. You don't want to make a rash decision and you do want to get along with the person as well.

Remember though, that you are being accountable to each other. This means that you both need to be able to take criticism and feedback from each other. Quite often it is much easier to be the one offering feedback than to be on the receiving end.

Plus you are going to have to be honest with your accountability partner when you don't meet your goals and deadlines – if that happens! While there is no need to be fearful of missing a goal, you do need to know why you missed it. A family emergency may have come up or maybe you don't know why you missed your goal. Actually this can be a good thing and a benefit to having an accountability partner.

If you are in the habit of missing deadlines it is possible that a person looking in from the outside can see things that you are missing. This could just be that your workload is so heavy that you don't have the time to get anything new. Or they may see that you spend way too much time on Facebook or visiting forums each day.

Once any problem areas have been identified it is up to you to take action and remedy them. This is all part of working together as accountability partners. No one is the judge, in fact, you are both just trying to help each other set and meet goals on a regular basis.

Many business people have connected with accountability partners and have a business relationship that has lasted decades. There is no reason why this couldn’t turn into a similar experience for you and your new accountability partner.

Will This Year Belong to You?

Are you one of those people who follow through on their actions or do you find that your good intentions fall to the wayside quickly? Regardless of which type of person you may classify yourself as, why not make this year the year which belongs to you?

While this may sound like a huge challenge, by breaking it down into smaller steps the picture becomes much clearer. When it comes to setting goals many people often make lofty goals, those that are almost unattainable or out of reach. It’s no wonder that these ambitions and goals are given up almost as fast as they were set.

So how do you set easy to reach goals that will lead you on the path of your dreams?

One of the first things that you need to accomplish is to think about what your goals are. Now I don't mean travelling the world living out of fancy hotels. I mean goals that are going to help you lead the life you have always dreamed of. If your goal was to travel the world what would be the steps you need to take to accomplish this?

By breaking down a main goal into smaller segments you are working towards your end goal. Building on the travel goal, what would you need to make this come true? Lots of money for one thing. How would you get this money? This would become a smaller goal.  Once you had the money how would you travel, where would you go and how long would you stay in each place. All of these steps are smaller goals that need to be determined.

Do you see how these smaller steps are building up to the main goal? Perfect!  This is exactly how you can make this year belong to you!

First define what your end goal is. Then plan out all of the steps you need to take to get there. This might include earning more money, saving money regularly, learning a new skill or it might involve losing weight and getting fit.

Regardless of your end goal, once you have planned out your steps you want to treat each one as a mini goal. Then take each mini goal and work on it until you have reached it. Then take the next one and build upon that. Repeat this process until you can see your end goal in sight.

Along the way you are going to come face to face with stumbling blocks and of course, life will get in the way. All of these things are perfectly normal.  What matters is the manner in which you deal with these road blocks.

For people losing weight it can be difficult when you reach a plateau for weeks and weeks. It is easier to give up and revert back to your old habits.  Such a plateau is very common in virtually every endeavour, not just losing weight. Those people who are really determined and motivated to reach their target goal will look for ways to deal with these plateaus. These people are fighters!

When working towards a goal you do not always have to work hard on it every day. Sometimes it is healthy to take a short break, just don't let this become a vacation though!

You may find it easier to schedule certain days of the week to work on your goal so that you don't become over focused or obsessed on it. Working on a new goal means finding ways to fit it into your life without placing something or someone else in jeopardy.

With this in mind you now have the tools and a plan of attack to make this year belong to you in any way you see fit.

Do Resolutions Really Work?

Making New Year's Resolutions seems to be the 'in' thing to do each year, but do they really work? The answer to this would depend upon how serious you are when you make your New Year's resolution.

Do you view a New Year's Resolution as something fleeting? You just make a bunch of half hearted resolutions without any real intention of trying to get them to work. Or are you in the minority where you take your resolutions extremely seriously? If so then you are one of the few that has the best chances of succeeding with your resolutions.

This year why not really commit to changing just one thing in your life? It will be so much easier to tackle just one resolution at a time. In fact, it will be even easier if you see your New Year's Resolution as a goal.

The majority of people view goals as a more serious item, whereas a New Year's resolution is often thought of as just something that by the end of January you don't bother with anymore.

It is just a strange quirk of human nature that goals are taken more seriously. Plus you are more likely to tell your family and friends about your goals. Vocalizing your goal solidifies it into your mind so that it becomes a daily focus. The end result is that you are 10 times more likely to succeed!

Now is the time to sit down and decide which aspect of your life you want to truly change. Make it something that you really want with all your heart's desire, otherwise your motivation will not last.

Once you have decided on your goal your next step is to write it down. This way your goal becomes real, you can also post your intentions on your Facebook page, your blog or even let your list subscribers know. Once you have taken the plunge to go this far, people are going to expect to see results, and you don't want to disappoint them do you?

Now that you have made a commitment it is time to start working on your goal. The best way to do this is to create a plan of attack. This can be as simple as writing down the steps you need to follow to reach your goal. Or you may prefer to write detailed steps and set mini goals that you have to reach.

This will be a personal preference and if your motivation is high you may not feel as though you need a step by step plan to follow. Just remember to make yourself accountable so that you stay on track.

It can be helpful to post weekly updates on your social pages, or let your subscribers know each week how you are progressing. Whatever you do you don't want to lose sight of your goal. Otherwise it may start to get pushed to the back of your mind and become a forgotten goal.

So even if your friends and co-workers have written up a huge list of New Year's Resolutions, be firm and just choose one this year.  Maybe one from the original list you wrote yourself, or perhaps a completely fresh one. It doesn't matter which you do as long as this is a resolution you really want to keep. Then stand back and watch and see how many of your friends actually follow through and who is still working on their resolutions come February.

Have some type of plan to follow or use certain tools, if necessary, to help you achieve the success that you want and that you deserve. In the end you are going to be responsible for your own actions and no-one else.

If you would like a good tool to help you do this, then try my "Resolution Revolution" e-book and workbook. You can find full details here:
